About our Library
The overall aim at the Library Resource Centre is to provide a wide range of resources in varying formats to meet the needs and interests of all students.
For more specific information please refer to the Library Resource Centre Policy Statements available from the Centre.
Opening Times
In addition to a student's timetabled library class all students are welcome to use the library before and after school with the exception of after school on Thursdays.
Loan Periods
Students may borrow books for one week however they may renew the loan as often as they would like. Books will only be renewed when brought to the library and failure to bring a book back on time whether it is the intention to renew it or not may result in an overdue notice being sent home.
Loan Limits
Students from K - Year 2 may borrow 1 book
Students in Years 3 may borrow 2 books
Students in Years 4-7 may borrow 3 books (this must include a Lexile book)
Protection of Hocking Primary School resources
In order to protect not only library books but home reading books, the use of a Hocking Primary School library bag in strongly encouraged however any waterproof bag is acceptable.
Lost or damaged books
It is appreciated by the school that accidents happen and that sometimes books are either lost or damaged. If a student thinks they have lost a library book they should let the Library Manager know so that a number of things can happen.
Firstly the library database and shelves will be checked to make sure that it hasn't been returned by someone else. The Library Manager will then discuss with the student where they might look to find the book ie: in their big tray, the tray underneath theirs, under the sofa etc.
If after followup discussions the book still hasn't been found a "Lost Book Notice" will be given to the student to take home informing parents or guardians of the book and the replacement cost. Because of the time that goes into assisting a student to find a lost book, generating an invoice and the processing of a replacement book, once the payment is made, no refunds are given which is why a generous grace period is given before a notice is sent home.
Similarly damaged books must be paid for however the age and general condition of the book will be taken into consideration before a student's family is charged.
